Big Brother 24: Week 6 Recap

After weeks of feeling like Taylor's demise was imminent, she now holds the power over the game. She helped play a part in several evictions and now as the reigning HOH, she can directly influence the direction of the game. It was a very interesting week in the house and it felt like things were all over the place. Targets were moving, cracks were showing, and punishments were dolled out. It all culminated in a rather straightforward Eviction Night, but this is clearly just the calm before the storm. Here is a look back at the week inside the Big Brother house.

The Leftovers Civil War is Brewing
Most of this week's storytelling doesn't get very interesting until we hit the veto competition, so that's where I'm going to spend most of my time. It's been a few weeks since the Leftovers formed and they've clearly been the biggest force in the house, knocking out the other houseguests one by one. This is the first week we can say that things didn't go smoothly at all. While Kyle won't be the one to spark the war, he'll be the one it gets blamed on. He won the veto competition this week with Indy and Terrance on the block and the rumblings were that the Leftovers wanted Alyssa on the block since she was felt to be a bigger threat to the alliance. My opinion of Kyle has changed a lot recently for a lot of reasons. Part of me wants to say that he was put in a tough situation, but the other part of me also feels that he did this to himself by getting into a showmance with someone not in his alliance. Hard decisions were going to need to be made, yet I'm not sure this was the time to do it. All of these conversations about getting Alyssa out happened without him in the room, which is a big deal since Kyle is part of the alliance. It doesn't seem fair to ask Kyle to get rid of his known showmance for a reason that seems extremely artificial. To compare this to the MCU, the catalyst, or Baron Zemo, of this situation is going to be Michael. He's clearly playing both sides of this alliance and is going to watch Turner and Kyle go up against Joseph, Monte, and Taylor as Brittany sits by the wayside and watches the madness unfold. I'm not sure when the war is going to begin but it's going to be sooner rather than later. I have no clue who is going to make the first move but my money would be on Kyle based on this week.

Skid, Fancy, and Everything Punk
Speaking of the veto competition, it was your classic prize competition where the first person gets the veto, but they likely won't end up with it. Since Terrance was the first eliminated houseguest, he won the veto by default, but he wouldn't end up with it. He actually ended up getting a tattoo punishment and while Kyle winning the veto would usually be note-worthy, it was everything that happened before it with Taylor and Alyssa that is what was the real takeaway. Taylor after being eliminated early was rewarded with a trip to London that she opted to keep. After Alyssa was eliminated next, she was given a punishment to get chained to a person for 48 hours. Instead of ensuring her safety for the week and with Taylor telling her that there was a replacement nominee in her mind, Alyssa takes her London trip and gives her punishment to Taylor. She didn't even end with the trip since Jasmine took it and gave Alyssa $5,000 instead. This led to Taylor choosing to be chained with Joseph with really bad accents and would be the catalyst for the target change to Alyssa. Indy was forced to perform several times throughout the week with her unitard on. Terrance was forced to put 182 tattoos all over his body. We saw them all a million times in the episode during the two-hour episode.

Taylor's HOH Week
I love Taylor and I am rooting for her to go far in this game. This was a very bad week for her in my opinion. From the onset, it was very clear she was overthinking who to put on the block and who to target. She thought more about playing the veto and having numbers going for the veto than she did about the bigger picture of the week. She at one point wanted to put Monte, Joseph, or Turner on the block, thinking about putting two up at the same time. She was properly talked off the ledge by the rest of the alliance. She did hold her ground and refused to put Jasmine on the block despite a strong push by everyone because she was steadfast in not targeting another black woman, which is a move I can respect despite Jasmine having no interest in saving her. She ended up on Indy and Terrance intending to get Terrance out because of his clear alliance with Daniel last week. The rest of her alliance wanted Indy out instead and she was suddenly fine with it despite her promise to not put a woman out. She then wanted Alyssa out because she broke the unwritten rule of the prize competition. She pushed for Alyssa to go on the block to Kyle and fell short in that regard as well. Taylor's reign is a classic case of the alliance controlling the situation. She will get credited with getting Indy out of the house, but that's not really what she wanted at the beginning of the week. She didn't play this week well and it's shame before this week's big twist when she couldn't play in the HOH competition.

This Week's Eviction
I'm not sure about everyone else's thoughts on the voting thus far, but I'm a little tired of everyone trying to be on the right side of things. Where are my close votes? Where is the HOH to break ties? Why are Alyssa and Jasmine constantly making sure they look good to everyone in the hoes despite it being clear they aren't in the major alliance? Indy was their best friend and everyone knew that. I have no clue why they always are flipping their votes other than to look good and to be on the house's side of everything. Indy only got one vote and it was from Michael, which made less sense than if Jasmine and Alyssa gave her the votes and made it a 6-2 vote. I don't have a strong opinion on Indy leaving since it didn't seem like she was on television that much. She wasn't on Taylor's side, which she made very clear, but I don't have any feelings about her leaving. She's the first jury member and it wasn't anything I found too exciting. What was more memorable was that she got forever to leave and gave a full speech before she exited the door. She also clearly had no clue what was going on in the game. She really thought that Taylor was targeting Monte, then claimed to know about the Leftovers when Michael announced it, which was a clear lie. She's gone and now we'll get jury segments with her.

What Could Happen This Week (SPOILER ALERT FOR THE PICKING OF THE TWO SIDES OF THE HOUSE THAT WON'T AIR UNTIL SUNDAY)
Welcome to the split...literally! The house has been divided and now two games will be played at once. The look on everyone's face when Julie announced the twist was great, showing equal parts shock and terror. Here is my breakdown of each side and how I think this is going to play out.

Big BroChella
If I'm Michael, I'm happy with this group because it allows a lot of things to happen. First, you can protect Brittany and Taylor since you have a final three deal with them. Second, it allowed Jasmine to be the main target, which is something the Leftovers wanted this past week. Lastly, it allows Monte to be a backdoor option if you're looking to make a big move. The only real problem I see is if Jasmine finds a way to win the veto because then you're sending home an alliance member, but that's something Michael can control still. If it's Monte and Taylor and it's a split vote, Michael can take out Monte. If it's Monte and Brittany and it's a split vote, he can still break the tie on Monte. If it's Taylor and Brittany, you weigh your options as to who you can beat more and place the deciding vote there. A situation with Brittany and Taylor on the block would be the worst-case scenario for him. I think it's unlikely to happen unless Jasmine magically wins a competition, but that could very well happen. I'll be interested to see if Michael can convince Brittany and Taylor that getting Monte out would be smart for the game, especially if the Leftovers are finished.

Dyre Fest
No disrespect to Terrance, but I'm amazed that he's an HOH this week. Hell must've frozen over because we have DJ Showtime in charge now, albeit he's outside for the entire week. Since he's not in the Leftovers, his week will likely be a little more chaotic. I could see him trying to take a run at Joseph and Turner to start the week, sparing Alyssa and Kyle for now since they are close. If either of his nominees wins the veto, I think Kyle would be the most likely person to go up, meaning we could see Kyle against Turner or Kyle against Joseph, depending on the veto. We could see another split vote here, but Turner and Alyssa would likely be more inclined to keep Kyle in this situation. If it comes down to Turner and Kyle, I think Joseph is more likely to keep Turner after last week's events and if Alyssa keeps Kyle around, I'm not sure who Terrance would eliminate. Kyle is probably the bigger threat to Terrance's game, but who knows what he'll do since he hasn't been in the loop. Amazingly, Alyssa is probably in the best position of anyone in this group. She's more likely to be protected by Kyle and Turner than Joseph is. This could be their best chance to send Joseph home.

How the twist will affect the game overall
It's clear to me that this twist was devised to cause chaos and try to break up some alliances. If everything goes to plan, the Leftovers all may remain in the house. I think it's less likely to happen amongst the outdoor group, but it remains a possibility. It would be wild to see both Joseph and Monte sent to the jury house this week because they are two of the biggest players left and would really only leave Kyle and Michael as major threats to win the game. There were some missed opportunities with the way the sides ended up. We don't get Turner and Jasmine outside together, though I'm sure we'll get some good content from Turner not missing Jasmine and it being peaceful without her. We didn't get to separate Kyle and Alyssa for a week, which would've made for interesting television. While I want to see how this week shakes out, I'm almost more interested in how each side of the house will react once the week is over depending on who goes home. I'm ready to see some big moves this week, so I'm secretly hoping we see at least one of the Leftovers go home. Someone make a move already, please.
