Big Brother 24: Week 10 Recap
After the absolutely shocking double eviction that sent Michael home last week, it was time for a slight reset in the game. The race for the top prize seemed to open up for the five remaining houseguests. The week was filled with late-night sleepovers, new romance, and a houseguest seemingly spiraling out of control. It wasn't the most exciting week in the house, but how could it be after the stressful evictions last week. We're in the endgame now and it was time for some moves to be made. While it didn't end with the most surprising eviction, the journey to it was very fun.
A House Without Michael
Had Michael stayed past the Double Eviction, they probably would've just cut the $750k check for him right then and there. He was on his way to breaking the all-time single-season competitions record with at least two more cracks at it this week. Instead, Turner and Monte, though mostly the latter, took the opportunity to send him packing from the game in sixth place and create a fresh start for most of the house. While this felt like a good game decision for both Turner and Monte since they were the most likely to win competitions over the rest of the house, it was tough for Brittany. Not only was Michael her biggest ally in the house, but he also left a trail of fire and left Brittany right in the middle of it with his speech before the votes were cast. She couldn't have been more perfectly placed under the bus and run over by it a few times as he exposed her game before walking out of the house. All week we heard about how Brittany was sad and frustrated with how Michael left and it was clear that it left a serious mark on her. How could her best friend in the house do this to her in that position? She'd become paranoid all week, ultimately turning on her once close ally, Taylor, in favor of keeping Alyssa after Taylor talked about Michael in a seemingly nice way. I'm sure there's a lot more to that story. She tried her hardest to get Alyssa to stay by trying to convince Turner to cast a sympathy vote for Alyssa to try and trick him so they could get Taylor out this week. She pretty much snapped this week and it made for interesting television. This one move made the game more winnable for the rest of the house, but it may have come at the cost of Brittany going insane. This is the only big thing to talk about this week that doesn't involve the HOH.
Monte's HOH Week
Continuing his momentum after winning the veto competition, Monte overcame the dark, some sticky stuff, and some cobwebs to win the black box competition by just nine seconds over Brittany to win his second HOH of the season, six weeks after his first win. He escaped by just a little bit, but he held the power for the week and it looked like there was a clear strategy to get Brittany out. He put her and Alyssa on the block to start the week with the hopes that either he or Turner would win the veto and keep the nominations the same. For the veto competition, Big Brother woke everyone up and called them into the backyard, giving them two minutes to get ready and outside. Monte's biggest problem this week was that he didn't compete in the veto competition because he took too long to get ready. He hurt Turner more than anyone because it decreased Turner's odds of winning against the women of the house. They had to put greats on a clock to make it work and it would be Brittany beating Turner by just one gear to win her fourth veto of the season and taking herself off the block. This forced Monte to make a tough decision between Taylor and Turner, though it really wasn't that tough at the end of the day. He'd put Taylor on the block, forcing her on the block for the fifth time on Eviction Night. I think Monte's week wasn't terrible, though he didn't succeed in getting his ultimate target out.
This Week's Eviction
As we entered Eviction Night, there was genuine concern over who was going to be evicted between Taylor and Alyssa. The catalyst for this was Brittany. She was trying extremely hard to push Alyssa to convince Turner to cast a sympathy vote for Alyssa so it could be 2-0 to evict Taylor. There were countless conversations between Turner and Alyssa where Turner seemed to entertain the idea of keeping her, but there was no way that was going to happen. Alyssa threatened their friendship if Turner voted her out. At the end of the day, Brittany turned on Taylor by voting to evict her. Turner stayed true to his word to Monte and voted Alyssa out. This meant we'd get our first tiebreaker vote of the season from the HOH. Monte stood in front of the house and voted to evict Alyssa, sending her out in fifth place and ensuring Taylor's spot in the Final 4. Alyssa took it with grace during her interview with Julie and didn't seem to be too upset with anyone, even Turner for the most part. I think this was the wrong choice for both Brittany and Turner, while good for Monte and the rest of America. The last true floater/non-factor of the season is now out of the house. Alyssa didn't win a competition and wasn't really close in most cases, though she would've won the HOH this season if she'd just counted the number of doors she'd boarded up. It brings a little bit more legitimacy to the Final 4 since they've all won competitions and have done a good job at playing the game.
What Could Happen This Week
There has been no competition that I've watched that caused me more stress than this HOH competition. Turner, Taylor, and Brittany faced off in a video quiz competition to cement the first spot in the finale. The video featured Julie doing TikTok dances in various dresses as the houseguests needed to keep track of her wardrobe changes and what she was wearing. It was clear from the beginning that Turner was guessing the entire time and he jumped out to an early lead after three questions. He'd get the next two wrong, opening the door for both Taylor and Brittany to jump ahead and after the seven questions, they were tied and forced into a tiebreaker. They were asked about the duration of Snooze Fest in seconds to determine the HOH. Though neither was very close to the answer, Brittany overestimated and Taylor underestimated, the pageant queen won the HOH and ensured she'd get to wear her bedazzled dress on finale night next Sunday. It is commonly known that the initial nominations don't mean anything. This week is all about the veto competition. The winner of the competition pretty much determines who casts the vote and decides who goes home. I wouldn't be surprised if Monte and Turner end up on the block tonight or Turner and Brittany, but I think Taylor ultimately aims to eliminate Turner this week with Brittany as her backup plan.
